At one time, staying in really was the new going out, as Saturday night TV was jam packed with feel good family favourites, such as Blind Date, The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right and Noel Edmunds House Party. Fast forward 15 years or so until now and helping us get back to the place – Tonight’s The Night returns!

The BBC show, now in its third series and still presented by West End star John Barrowman, sees him and numerous artists and special guests making people’s dreams come true with once-in-a-lifetime-performances...and as the man himself may say...’Anything Goes’!

Richard Martin Lighting (RML) continues to support Lighting Designer Roger Williams on the show which is filmed (in the city John was born) at BBC Glasgow. Tom Sutherland programmed and graphics were provided by Potion Pictures which were run off 2 Hippo Grasshoppers.

The lighting rig, incorporates a heavy variety of the Clay Paky range – Alpha Spot 575 HPE, Alpha Beam 700 and Alpha Wash 300 to name but a few.

The Alpha Spot 575 is a very bright basic 575 W spotlight, fitted with a 15°-30° zoom and a rich graphic system consisting of 12 gobos, a prism, two frost filters, an iris, a dimmer and a stop/strobe. It is practical and silent with an innovative look, and is ideal for professional and entertainment applications of all kind.

Various LED Lights completed the look – including LED Par 36, 2 Lights, iCove QL and Chroma Strips and the new intelligent LED chasing ribbon.

The LED Par 36 has RGB colour mixing and has an extremely long life with low power consumption making it a perfect fixture, especially in a time when there is so much emphasis on being ‘green’.

The show contains at its heart elements of classic 1980s entertainment shows, such as Suprise Suprise, Jim’ll Fix It and Beadles About, meaning we are sure it has all of the components of a modern day classic!
