Black Swan, The Fighter, The Kings Speech, Social Network – the competition has never been so fierce this year as the Hollywood A-listers take to the red carpet – yes it’s that time again - its Oscars night! This year Alex Zane presented the show on Sky Movies.
Lighting Designer Malcolm Reed opted for Chroma Flood TC’s and Richard Martin Lighting’s most recent purchase - Clay Paky Sharpys, to help create a vibrant and neon look to the chic retro set. Assisting the chosen specification were Pixel Par 90’s, giving him the opportunity to play around with a painted sky line ‘back drop’ mixing up colours to get the desired look.
The Sharpys were used to create the impression that the studio was live in LA, the beams moving around the sky line. Being the first rental house in the world to stock these units, RML was excited about the opportunity for the product to have their Sky TV debut.
‘This 189W lamp Beam Moving Light with an unprecedented brightness that until now has only been possible with lamps nine times this powerful. Its light beam is in fact so concentrated and aligned that it looks more like a laser ray.’
Malcolm previously said regarding his choice of kit “for part of the set dressing - lighting plants and louvered windows, I wanted a wide beamed LED Light source so I chose the Chroma Flood 200 TC. For me this was an ideal light as it gave the beam spread that I was looking for a great colour range and being Tri colour LED's I get very good and strong colour coverage”.
The Oscars have come a long way since the first ceremony at a private hotel banquet in 1929 when just 270 people attended, guests had to pay $5 and the winners were known ahead of time. Richard Martin Lighting look forward to watching it continue to go from strength to strength whilst enjoy being a part of such a prestigious event.
