It was comeback time for one of the Rock Worlds most loved and lively bands – Red Hot Chilli Peppers! The last time they were gigging in the UK was back in 2007 so those lucky competition winners at Radio 1 were in for a treat on Friday night at Koko, London.....and despite the fact that most of the members of the band are now fast approaching 50 those topless tattooed toned guys didn’t disappoint!
The intimate gig hosted by Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe showcased songs from the band’s new album ‘I’m With You’, which although is a far cry from some of their earlier hits, still carries some of the bands now signature sounds.
Richard Martin Lighting (RML) supported up-and-coming Lighting Designer Tom Sutherland on the show which will be aired on Radio 1, September 12th 7-9pm.
Clay Paky Alpha Beam and Alpha Wash 700’s were used to create a basic but bold and effective lighting show.
The Alpha Beam 700 is a special and unique luminaire, conceived as an automated ACL to create parallel light beams, visible even in the brightest scenes. Its small, lightweight, quick-moving body contains the most advanced technology for generating a bright beam that can be coloured and shaped at pleasure, for amazing dynamic mid-air effects. This beam may be pointed at the audience or used as a dynamic colour changing “sky-tracker”, thus providing lighting designers with totally innovative options.
Though there were some off the cuff emotional moments which arguably you wouldn’t have seen 10 years ago....lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis sharing a hug with his son who was watching from the side of stage....it was a great band who are back doing what they do best....rockin!!
