From non uniform days and tuck-shops, to shaving your hair off, bathing in beans or a 24hour silence – the list literally is endless! If there is one thing us Brits can do well, it’s not take ourselves too seriously and embrace the madness, especially if it’s for a good cause. And what better cause than the BBC’s annual charity fundraising appeal show Children In Need.
Richard Martin Lighting (RML) showed its continuous support by supplying the lighting and crew for the 9th year running, whilst the event, filmed live at BBC Television Centre (TVC), was celebrating its 31st anniversary.
The outstanding efforts of all those that took part have so far raised donations of over £20 million, to fund projects which help change the lives of thousands of disadvantaged young people around Great Britain.
This year the show had a new set and a new Lighting Designer – Mark Kenyon stepped up to light the fun packed Friday night! David Bishop assisted Mark as moving light operator.
Mark chose a high impact lighting rig to compliment the electrifying energy of both the set and the audience.
The live show from TC1, hosted by Terry Wogan, Tess Daly and Fearne Cotton, consisted of Alpha Beam 700’s, Chroma Banks, VL1000TS, Nova Flowers, Pixel Brick kits, VL3500’s and LC2140 panels plus P3 Controller.
TC6 again played host to the hospitality area where the VIP’s and event organisers were entertained with a live performance from 80’s revival band Heaven 17. Lighting Designer Lee Allen used Mac 600’s, Mac 500’s and LED 12 Lights to create a sumptuous environment for people to relax and enjoy a glass of something or a taste of the delicious hot-pot style catering provided.
And no Children In Need would be the same without the huge Colour Web Welcome!
As well as continuous support from businesses, schools or the general public, the Children In Need night also never seems to disappoint by being a true all star line up! This year was no exception with performances from the likes of Cheryl Cole, Kylie, Peter Andre and JLS who performed their latest single ‘Love You More’, which is also this year’s official Children In Need record. Personal highlights include in Louis Spence and his news girls, the Eastenders and Corrie collaboration and of course lets ‘Never Forget’...Take That!!
